• 75% of students achieve a ‘strong pass’ (grades 9-5) in GCSE English and Maths.
  • 88% of students achieve a ‘standard pass’ (grades 9-4) in GCSE English and Maths.

The first cohort of pupils to sit their GCSEs at Eden Girls’ Leadership Academy, Manchester are celebrating after achieving an exceptional set of results.

Following the school opening to year 7 pupils in 2017, this group of year 11s are the first in the school’s history to sit their GCSEs, with 75% of students achieving a ‘strong pass’ (grades 9-5) in GCSE English and Maths, representing the outstanding level of teaching they have been provided.

2022 has provided a double celebration for the school, after it was judged as ‘outstanding’ in two of the four inspection categories in its first Ofsted inspection earlier this year, receiving an overall rating of ‘good’.

Pupils have also valiantly overcome two years of disruption to their education, following periods of lockdowns, self-isolation and illness, and staff and parents have today been celebrating with pupils at the school as they progress onto the next stage of their education or training.

Hibba Riaz (pictured left), the school’s Deputy Head Girl, achieved the top grade of 9 in two subjects – as well as five grade 8s and three 7s. Hibba, who aspires to study Dentistry at university, will take her A levels in Biology, Chemistry and English Literature.

Hibba admitted that the pandemic was the hardest challenge to overcome, but received valuable support from the school. She said:

“We had to ensure we got through all the content despite the interruptions, but I am extremely grateful for the immense support from my parents and my teachers during the pandemic. It has been a difficult journey with extra revision sessions, intervention, and mock exams however their feedback, support, and praise kept me going until the very end.”

Fellow pupil Anam Altaf also came away delighted with her results, achieving three grade 9s in Urdu, French and Religious Studies, five grade 8s and two 7s which secured her place at Loreto where she will study Biology, Psychology and IT, in the hopes of becoming a Clinical Psychologist.

Anam said:

“Coming to this school has not only opened many doors for me, but has also allowed me to open my mind and realise my potential. All in all, this has been possible through the continuous support provided by my talented teachers. Thank you for helping me achieve the grades that I truly deserve.”

Shabir Fazal OBE, Executive Principal at Eden Girls’ Leadership Academy, Manchester said:

“Our pupils have risen to the challenge of being our first year group to sit GCSE exams and they have come away with truly exceptional results.

“I am very proud of how everyone in the school has faced up to everything that has come their way over the past two years, and I’m thrilled that all this hard work has been recognised, firstly through our Ofsted judgement and now with these results.

“I would like to thank the teachers and pupils for showing that great things can happen when we work together.”
